Soco Fuelled Rant

I've got a confession.....

I love Bette Midler...

There, I said it.
Watching a classic Bette film tonight has reminded me of my love for her.
She sings, she dances, she's funny and I genuinely enjoy watching anything she's in or even hearing her sing.
She is an entertainment triple threat with fantastic pins!
One of my Mother's dear sister's remind me of Bette. Aunty Robyn also has that wonderful quick wit and red hair to boot, but she is genuine, and caring and the happiest person I know, everyone who knows her is better off for knowing her. Now i don't know if Bette makes other people feel that way, but i have a sneeking suspisiton she might.

So there, my secret is revealed. Ahhhh I can continue...

So tonight, thanks to two cans of Sothern Comfort, I am ranting about...

1. People who use our street, at all times of the day and night, as a racetrack shortcut. At the top of our street is an inersection with a main road and sets of lights. If the light on the main road is red, instead of waiting, people, lots of people, turn left into our street and drive half way down until the meduim strip of trees and a concrete barrier finishes, then do a U turn, go back up our street and turn right onto the main road again, continuing on with their trip without stopping. But instead of doing this in an orderly fashion, the speed down our street, do wheelies around the U turn and then speed back up our street. Sometimes so loud it wakes up our baby girl. It continually happens, possibly around 20-30 times a day and into the evening.
Stupid bogans and their stupid cars and their stupid right feet.

2. How boys, as a whole, are gross. Yes I love my fiance, and yes we can't live without them, but geez, couldn't they atleast be a little more refind, just a little. I'm not going to elaborate as to what brought me to rant about this, but lets just say it wasn't pretty.

3. Tele Movies about a world-as-we-know-it ending natural disaster.
Every character reprisents a side of the community and every side of people's individual character and emotion and how they would react in the situation.
I grew up with my father a main volunteer of our local S.E.S. Through this and his little obsession with the weather, I ended up aslo mildly enjoying it too, enough to want to join as a junior volunteer, but Dad left when I was 16, just as i was to join. He had put in 15 years of volunteering with the S.E.S and quite frankly i didn't want to join if he wasn't going to be there. I think I wanted to connect with my father in some way. Whilst so alike in so many ways, we really didn't know or understand each other at all....Daddy issues, clearly....
But, thats another rant...
SO, these tele movies, prey on the "what if's" of the world. And whilst i think the'yre pretty lame and TOTALLY predictable, I get sucked in so easily. It's like a VPL on someone on the larger end of the scale....its awful but you can't look away. Oh and there's always atleast one C grade actor as a main character to try and give it credability.

4. Forgetting to brush your teeth and only realising it hours and hours later when your teeth are furry.

I HATE furry teeth.

Hmmm thats about it for the night i think....??

I'm going to brush my teeth in the ad break, i dont want to miss finding out who lives and wether or not they get the big flood gates closed in time to save London from more flooding from the torrential rain.

Ciao, Ciao xx

what i would like to do to the cars that hoon down our street.

2 of these premixed with cola is what fuelled my rant.

this explains itself....

Furry Teeth...terrible...

I have SO much work to do today with the impending move and Christmas. Lots of packing, organising, looking after Bubbles and ofcourse general housework, not to mention the ongoing war with the local ant community. But, I always have time to wander my eyes through countless wedding blogs. I love them, they are my new favourite thing!!
Organising for our own wedding has sort of stalled for the moment as the move and christmas is first on the agenda lately. But with the recent, long awaited, engagement of my brother S and his beautiful fiance, also S, my wedding brain has been switched on again! So here is a little peek at some of the wedding blogs I have fallen in love with....
Ofcourse, Style Me Pretty is first on the list, this blog has everything, it is the perfect one stop shop for ideas, other blogs, sites and vendors. Most of the other blogs i mention i will have found through SMP. I regularly need a Pretty hit now, I'm addicted.

And through Style Me Pretty I have come across Grey Like Weddings There is lots of DIY projects and beautiful pictures and ideas.

The Knot is fantastic! The original website is American based but the Australian version was just launched in October. You can switch between the two by clicking on the American or Aussie flags in the top left corner of the homepage.
You can use the site as a personal wedding organiser by adding in the details of your wedding like the date, how many guests, your budget etc. The budgeter will work out how much to spend on each item, add or minus any items you will or wont be using like a wedding planner if your doing it yourself. Once you have paid for something, you add in the actual price and it adjusts the budget for everything else again.
You can also type up your guest list on there and the To Do List is very handy aswell.
There are great "Top Lists" of everything from bridesmaid dresses to colour combo's and reception decorating ideas. You can check out heaps of Real Wedding galleries from people in your state or all across Australia, search vendours in your area, and read up on other Knotties wedding blogs.
As its still relatively new, it doesn't quite have all the pics the American site does but its getting there.
I love it, it has been so handy since i first started planning our wedding at the beginning of the year and I'm still turning to it now with only 4 months left to go.

Well thats my tops 3 Wedding sites, I've used up my quota of blogging for the day and must go hang out some washing...ahh back to the wonderfully mundane.

In the words of Molly Meldrum, "Do Yourself a favour"..."

As i was wandering around Queenslands largest shopping centre on Sunday with A.J, Em and the beautiful, little, good girl, I noticed a familar sound. No, it wasn't another child crying. It was a song and a voice. I still can't remember where i first heard Andy Bull. I think it may have been on Rove. He sang "We're too young", and i was hooked and blown away. He has such an amazing voice and writes beautifully. I love his pop/soul mix. He is Aussie and very talented. Listen to "We're too young" and you will be hooked. Another piece og music genius is "Young Man". Get behind and support this local talent, he will reignite your passion for pop.

finding out friends are talented.....

I found these gorgeous images when googling my friend Zuleihka Stevens, who will be doing the make up for our wedding.
They are from Arc Creative and are styled by Zuleihka.
Love them, they make me think of romantic winter get aways where all you do is kiss and hang out and throw clothes on only to go out for food, and everything you packed is always romantic and fun and effortlessly sexy.
Ahhhh..

Where is the Christmas cheer??

Ahhhh Christmas!
It's just around the corner, literally, around the corner from my house and your house at any shopping centre. Decorations are up, the crowds are swelling as everyone racks their brains to pick the perfect gift and of course, Santa, who is perched on his chair listening to the requests for every kind of toy under the sun from excited, nervous and sometimes slightly scared little children.
We are moving house right after Christmas this year, so we didnt get a tree. But being an eternal 12 year old, i still had to put up some decorations. The fruit bowl is now a bauble bowl and tinsel is hung from the blinds.
This weekend the local Carols were held. I told A.J about them last week and reminded him daily. Unfortunately, like most males, he has selective hearing and memory and "forgot" about the carols being on Saturday and invited two of our friends over for dinner. We compromised and our friends came with us to the carols. Unfortunately, the carols were a two bit effort with Santa being the biggest let down. He was a twenty something someone who clearly thought he would "totally own" being Santa but got caught like a deer in headlights and lost his brain when he got on stage. He was meant to sing the Aussie version of Jingle Bells but obviously had not rehearsed as he couldnt remember the words and started singing from halfway through a verse, Until "Solo" his Bonds singlet, boardies, thongs, Santa hat wearing, guitar wielding friend mentioned it would be good to maybe sing the song from the start. Then when he sung the wrong words, instead of just continuing like a true performer would, he said and I quote "oops, that was the wrong words" and continued singing. Then, floundering on stage and having already sung the same verse twice as he didnt know anymore (and with the lyrics of the songs being displayed on the big screens around the lake having to be skipped through quickly to find what this Santa was singing), he quickly decided he "must be off has he has many other communities to visit before Christmas. He was then asked by the host where he was off to now and again i quote was "off to Uzbekistan, its just below Russia"
You know its the children I feel sorrow for. Luckily my little girl is only 8months old and not old enough to know who Santa is and whats going.
The finale was actually a wonderful fireworks show which helped to bring back some credibility but unfortunately what happened next was to leave a bad taste that no amount of free icecream or christmas pudding could sweeten.
Our friends had followed us in their car on the way to the carols and had lost us ahead of them with lots of traffice gettting inbetween us. So they just tturned down a street near the carols and parked next to a vacant lot where there were other cars parked. As soon as the fireworks had finished we packed up and headed to our cars. We were parked further away so accpected our friends to be back at our house before us.
But when we had already been home for a good 10 minutes with no sign of them, A.J called to see where they were.
Their car window had been smashed and Jaz's wallet gone. Obviously upset.
Who is going to noticed glass being smashed when there are fireworks going off? A brazen grab for some cash. Obviously a crime of opportunity as they had not bothered to look anywhere else, as there was $40 in  coins in the centre console and heaps of cd's on the sun visors.

I felt awful, a little responsible, as it was my idea to go to the carols and I really pushed it even when no one else was very keen.
Ofcourse they dont think that way at all, and thats why we are friends. They hold no grudges and just get on with it, and we took a garbage bag and dust pan and broom to sweep up the glass from inside the car and a torch to help search the area for the wallet. No luck finding the wallet.

But if I can offer a tip, no matter where you are, even if its at a "family event", hide personal items really well in your car or take them with you, even if you wont need them, and dont leave things like house keys or pin numbers in your wallet.

I hope everyone else has a better experience at whatever Christmas functions and events they attend this year and even if there are soem hiccups, you keep the Christmas cheer by remembering others have it worse off than you, and good freinds will always be good friends, no matter what time of the year.
